Our hearts go out to those areas and individuals across the North Island severely impacted by cyclone Gabrielle – it’s devastating.
Whangamata was hit hard with damage to the beach and some flooding in parts of the town. The sun is out so we’ve got a chance to dry out. The good news is the road between Whangamata & Waihi appears to be in reasonable shape and open – PHEW! Unfortunately our friends further up the coast (Tairua & Whitianga) have some tougher challenges however we know the strength of those communities and the support they will get from the Council, NZTA and other agencies, will see them return to normal in no time.
We are confident that with 5 weeks to go Repco Beach Hop 23 will proceed – we all need a bloody good celebration!
Our thoughts however go to the organisers of the Art Deco Weekend in Napier that was due to start tomorrow. We’re helping to share their cancellation news as they aren’t able too…
